DETROIT LAKES — Three candidates had filed, as of Monday afternoon, May 23, for the District 1 Becker County Board seat now held by Commissioner Larry Knutson, who does not plan to file for reelection.
Tim Clements of rural Osage, Erica Jepson of rural Frazee and Craig Hall of rural Rochert have filed in the District 1 commissioners race, a large district which includes the whole eastern half of Becker County.

Commissioner Ben Grimsley, who lives on Summit Avenue in Detroit Lakes, has three challengers for his District 2 seat on the Becker County Board: Steven D. Walz, who lives on West Lake Drive, Darin Halvorson, who lives on East Shore Drive, and David Meyer, who lives on Roosevelt Avenue.
Commissioner District 2 is a city district, made up of wards 2 and 3 in Detroit Lakes and Detroit Township precinct 2.
Becker County Sheriff Todd Glander is also facing a challenger for his job – Chad Peterson of Lake Park.

The other three Becker County commissioner district seats are not up for election this year, but Glander, County Attorney Brian McDonald and Auditor-Treasurer Mary Hendrickson have all filed for reelection. All county seats on the ballot are for four-year terms.
In addition, Curtis Ballard of rural Ogema and Eugene Pavelko of rural Detroit Lakes have filed for reelection to the Becker Soil and Water Conservation District Board.
Candidate filing at the Becker County Courthouse opened May 17 and closes at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, May 31.
