DETROIT LAKES — The Detroit Lakes Fire Department welcomed a new member on Tuesday: John Cervantes has successfully completed his one-year probationary period and officially joined the volunteer fire department.
He was sworn in by Detroit Lakes Mayor Matt Brenk at the City Council meeting on Tuesday.
Cervantes is the street supervisor for the Detroit Lakes Public Works Department.
He served on the Thief River Falls Fire Department for 11 years, and is a 24-year veteran of the Army National Guard.
“After my time in the military, I wanted to continue public service,” Cervantes said in a brief interview at the meeting.
