Zhaawanong Naabinabin Warren, 21, of rural Ogema, has been charged in Becker County District Court with felony second-degree burglary of a church.
According to court records, on the night of June 12 or June 13, 2020, the Strawberry Lake Mennonite Church was burglarized. A basement window was broken, an LG 65-inch TV was broken and a 24-inch Vizio TV was taken. Two metal doors in the church had pry marks on them and had been rendered unworkable. A crowbar was found outside on the sidewalk near the broken window. Fingerprints were taken at the scene and submitted to the Minnesota Bureau of criminal Apprehension for analysis.
On Feb. 18, the BCA reported that a print taken from the glass on the rear entry door matched Warren’s right thumbprint.
On April 23, District Judge Michelle Winkis Lawson set cash bail for Warren at $5,000 or bond at $5,000, under standard conditions of release, or $10,000 bond with no conditions. A court appearance was set for May 3.
Man accused of assaulting girlfriend, fleeing police officer
Jordan Lee Hanks, 21, of Mahnomen, has been charged in Becker County District Court with felony third-degree assault, felony fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle, misdemeanor domestic assault, misdemeanor fleeing a peace officer on foot and misdemeanor theft.

According to court records, on April 14, he got angry with his girlfriend over some phone texts and assaulted her in the car as they were driving. He punched her and elbowed her in the face 10 times, with their infant child in the back seat.
A law enforcement officer in a squad car behind them saw them struggling in the front seat and tried to pull them over on Richwood Road, but Hanks did not stop, instead he drove slowly, turned on to North Tower Road, and turned around on the grass to avoid the squad car trying to block him.
He abandoned the car in the middle of the street and ran off, taking the woman’s new cellphone with him. The officer tended to the victim.
On April 22, an arrest warrant was issued for Hanks by District Judge Peter Irvine.
Beer can thrown out car window leads to meth charge
Cruz Patrick Lopez, 29, of Callaway, has been charged in Becker County District Court with felony fifth-degree controlled substance crime.
According to court records, on Jan. 19, a witness reported him driving erratically on Highway 10, and throwing a beer can out the window on the way to Walmart in Detroit Lakes.
A police officer waited by his car until Lopez came out of Walmart, and when he talked to him the car smelled strongly of marijuana. Lopez said there was a marijuana roach in the ashtray. A search revealed an open bottle of whiskey, marijuana, and four baggies with a total weight of just over a third of a gram of meth.
On April 22, a court summons was issued for Lopez by District Judge Peter Irvine.

Man accused of burning woman's face with lit cigarette
William James Fasthorse, 31, of rural Ogema, has been charged in Becker County District Court with felony third-degree assault, two counts of misdemeanor domestic assault, and one count of misdemeanor domestic abuse - violating a no-contact order.
According to court records, on April 23, a White Earth police officer saw a woman at the Richwood Store and noticed she had marks on her face. It was swollen, she had a cut lip and what looked like a cigarette burn on her left cheek.
She reluctantly admitted to the officer that her boyfriend, Fasthorse, had just assaulted her at her Detroit Lakes apartment, and she quietly told another woman who was in the store at the time that Fasthorse had kicked her in the face, put a cigarette out on her face, and kept pounding on her until she got away. The victim was “extremely upset, terrified of Fasthorse, and seemed to be afraid for her life,” the officer said in the criminal complaint.
A domestic abuse restraining order had been issued against Fasthorse to protect the woman on March 2, and was still in effect at the time.
On April 26, an arrest warrant was issued for Fasthorse.
