Man appears on store break-in charges

A former Becker County man has his first appearance in Becker County District Court on two charges Monday. District Judge Lisa Borgen set bond at $20,000 against Scott Roy, 36, of 316 Peters Street SW, Atlanta, Ga. His next court appearance is May 1.

A former Becker County man has his first appearance in Becker County District Court on two charges Monday.

District Judge Lisa Borgen set bond at $20,000 against Scott Roy, 36, of 316 Peters Street SW, Atlanta, Ga. His next court appearance is May 1.

Roy is charged with one count each of felony first-degree burglary-other person present and gross misdemeanor obstructing a peace officer with violence.

According to the court complaint, Roy allegedly broke into M&W Convenience Store of White Earth Village in the early morning hours of April 21. He was confronted by the store owner, Darb MacAthur, and fled the premises.

MacAthur contacted authorities, which arrived and arrested Roy in the nearby woods. Roy allegedly resisted arrest.

The felony carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and/or a $35,000 fine. The gross misdemeanor charge is one year in jail and/or a $3,000 fine.
