Man pulled from Duluth harbor in critical condition

DULUTH, Minn. -- A man rescued from a vehicle that went into the Duluth harbor over the weekend remained in critical condition Monday at Essentia Health-St. Mary's Medical Center.

DULUTH, Minn. -- A man rescued from a vehicle that went into the Duluth harbor over the weekend remained in critical condition Monday at Essentia Health-St. Mary’s Medical Center.

Matthew Amerson, 25, was pulled from the icy waters of Superior Bay early Saturday morning.

The vehicle was “mostly submerged” when firefighters responded to the call at 2:18 a.m., a news release from the fire department said.

Amerson was the lone occupant in the vehicle that went into a slip and was retrieved within seven minutes, according to the fire department report.

No other vehicles were involved.

With the assistance of Duluth police, the rescue crew was able to remove the vehicle from the water about 3:45 a.m. The U.S. Coast Guard also was on scene.
