Harry Maddox III, 60, of Columbia Heights has been sentenced in Becker County District Court for gross misdemeanor check forgery. A felony check forgery charge was dropped in a plea agreement.
According to court records, on Sept. 26, 2016, he passed a forged check for $181 at Petro Plus in Detroit Lakes. He has a significant history of check forgery and was identified by surveillance camera at the store. A woman from the corporate level at Petro Plus recognized him from past bad check offenses.
Maddox appeared in court April 30 before District Judge Jay Carlson, who sentenced him on the gross misdemeanor charge to 365 days in jail, with credit for 365 days served. He was ordered to pay a $50 fine and $421 in court fees.
