The leaves are starting to turn and the colors are quickly filling the trees at Maplewood State Park.
The park's 9,250 acres are known for its hardwood trees including the sugar maple, basswood, American elm and oak. These trees are beginning to provide a beautiful display of fall colors. Maplewood State Park is one of the best places in Minnesota to enjoy the fall colors.
Visitors can enjoy beautiful scenery from their vehicles, hike on some of the 25 miles of hiking trails, and enjoy a picnic in the park. A personal favorite is to hike to the top of Hallaway Hill and look out across Lake Lida at all the wonderful colors reflecting in the lake.
For three weekends beginning on Sept. 20, the Friends of Maplewood will be giving wagon rides to view the fall colors. They will also be selling food out of the new Josh Hanson Memorial Picnic Shelter. Come join your "Friends" for a day in the park. Remember to bring your camera.
