Former Grand Forks, N.D. resident MayDean (Van Voorhis) Lessard, 75, of Detroit Lakes, died Tuesday, April 3, 2007, with family at her bedside, at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo.

MayDean Reynolds was born to Orville and Tommie (Dean) Reynolds on Jan. 24, 1932 in Neosho, Mo., where she was raised and educated.

She married Robert B. Van Voorhis on Aug. 20, 1954 in Neosho. They moved to Albion, Neb., in 1955 and on to Grand Forks in 1960. Robert passed away Jan. 12, 1989.

MayDean worked for several years with the University of North Dakota, her most recent position being administrative assistant to the dean of the School of Medicine at UND. She married Dennis Lessard on March 28, 1993. The lakeside ceremony took place at their home in Ahwatukee, Ariz. They resided in the Phoenix and Detroit Lakes area until 1997, when they moved to Detroit Lakes to live year round.

MayDean loved to read, garden, dance, laugh, laugh and laugh a little more. She adored her grandchildren and her companions, Nicks (cat) and Hugger (dog).

Surviving MayDean are her husband, Dennis Lessard of Detroit Lakes; a son, Kipton (Judy) Van Voorhis of Edina, Minn.; daughter, Kirsten (Jeff) Kresl of Conifer, Colo.; three grandchildren; a brother, Don (Mary) Reynolds of Joplin, Mo.; and one niece.

Preceding MayDean in death were her first husband, Robert Van Voorhis, and her parents.

Visitation will be between 5-7 p.m. Thursday, April 12, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, at Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 S. 42nd St., Grand Forks, and continues for one hour prior to Friday's services in the church.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, April 13, at Wesley United Methodist Church, 1600 4th Ave. North, Grand Forks. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Grand Forks.

There will also be a memorial service at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, April 15, in the United Methodist Church, Detroit Lakes.
