2022 Primary Results: Utke wins Senate District 5 GOP primary over two challengers
Paul Utke, incumbent state senator, defeated two GOP challengers with 57.8% of the vote with 95% of the precincts reporting their results from the Aug. 9 primary. Utke will face DFL candidate A. John Peters, who ran unopposed in the primary, in the general election on Nov. 8.
DETROIT LAKES — Paul Utke defeated challengers Bret Bussman and Dale A.P. Anderson to win the GOP primary for Senate District 5 with 95% of precincts reporting.
With 95% of precincts reporting:
- Utke — 58%, or 4,917 votes
- Bussman — 32%, or 2,725 votes
- Anderson — 10%, or 865 votes
Utke, of Park Rapids, is the current state senator representing District 2 and was forced into the District 5 race due to the redistricting process.
Utke will face DFL candidate A. John Peters in the general election on Nov. 8.
