Victim identified in reported accidental shooting in rural west-central Minnesota

The Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office announced Thursday evening that Steven Coulston, 64, was the man who died in the reported accidental shooting Tuesday evening in rural Lake Lillian. The circumstances of the death remain under investigation.

LAKE LILLIAN, Minn. — The 64-year-old man who died Tuesday in rural Lake Lillian from a reported accidental firearm discharge has been identified as Steven Coulston.

According to a news release issued Thursday evening by Detective Sgt. Kent Bauman of the Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office, the circumstances surrounding the shooting death remain under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office.

The incident occurred in the 10000 block of 165th Avenue Southeast northwest of Lake Lillian.

According to an earlier news release, the Sheriff's Office received a 911 call at about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, and the caller said a man had been shot in the head and killed when a firearm discharged accidentally.
