MnDOT proposes options for Highway 59/10 area

A small handful of people showed up for the Minnesota Department of Transportation-hosted open house that asked for public input on future road projects. For those who missed out, it's not too late to give comments though.

The options were presented at an open house last week. The public can still comment on the options online at www.dot.state.mn.us/d4/projects/dlstudy/alternatives.html.

A small handful of people showed up for the Minnesota Department of Transportation-hosted open house that asked for public input on future road projects. For those who missed out, it's not too late to give comments though.

Consultant Jack Broz, HR Green, gave a "big picture thinking, long-range planning" presentation Wednesday evening about possible alternatives MnDOT is studying.

There are eight areas of study being looked at and open to comment.

Some of them include suggestions for Highway 10 and Highway 59 service roads; access to future development north of Highway 10 west; intersections at Washington Avenue and Highway 34, Highway 59 South and County Road 6, Highway 59 South and Country Road 22 and Highway 59 South and Willow Street.

MnDOT's website -- www.dot.state.mn.us/d4/projects/dlstudy -- has each of the study areas and the proposed alternatives listed. There is also a place to comment on each of the alternative proposals.

Broz explained that the plan is not one big project, but rather it will be several different ones over the next 20 years.

"Some are tentatively tagged for five years," MnDOT District 4 Planning Director Shiloh Wahl said.

Some of the ideas are more long-range though.

"Funding is always an unknown," he added.

The public is encouraged to visit www.dot.state.mn.us/d4/projects/dlstudy/alternatives.html and comment on the plans.

Another meeting will be held this fall to reveal a consensus of the comments and some recommendations.
