Local law enforcement, emergency responders and the Park Rapids Schools will conduct a mock school disaster from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Friday, March 7.
Friday is a staff development day so the only students participating will be members of the Park Rapids Chapter of the National Honor Society, who have volunteered to be "victims" in the incident.
At a planning meeting Friday, school administrators said similar exercises have proven to be good training for all staff but will be especially valuable for those new to the district this year. All instructional staff will be brought from Century School to the Area High School for the mock disaster.
Dave W. Konshok, Hubbard County's new emergency management director, will coordinate activities. Participants will include the Park Rapids Police Department, Hubbard County Sheriff's Office, Hubbard/Wadena County Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team, North Ambulance, St. Joseph's Area Health services and local news media.
