FARGO - A neighbor who heard screams for help came to the aid of a woman allegedly being choked by her boyfriend and knocked him off of her, police said.

Dispatchers received a call at 2:51 a.m. about a disturbance in the 1500 block of 16½ Street South.

Sgt. Mark Lykken said the 32-year-old victim told police she was trying to sleep when her boyfriend came home and wanted attention from her. When she ignored him, he allegedly choked her.

She was able to get away and call 911, but the boyfriend grabbed the phone away from her, she told police. The dispatch log states a female could be heard screaming in the background "Help me please, he's going to kill me."

The victim escaped again and the boyfriend caught her again when she tried to leave the apartment. He allegedly was choking her again when the neighbor knocked him off of her, Lykken said.
