North Central Minnesota Lakes Project to meet in Hubbard County Friday

The newly released Alternative Shoreland Standards and Healthy Lakes will be the themes for North Central Minnesota Lakes Stakeholder meeting to be held from 9:30 a.m. until noon on Friday, April 21, at the Hubbard Community Center in the village of Hubbard.

Russ Schultz from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and Garry Johanson, from Naterra Land Company, will start off the meeting with a talk about the science and reason behind the new Alternative Shoreland Standards. Then Jim Steenerson, from the Northwest Minnesota Foundation, and Ken Grob, chair of the Hubbard County Coalition of Lake Associations, will discuss the Healthy Lakes Program and talk about how Hubbard County lake associations are benefiting from it.

The North Central Minnesota Lakes Project is part of Governor Pawlenty's Clean Water Initiative. It is a collaborative of citizens, public agencies and non-profit organizations from Aitkin, Cass, Crow Wing, Hubbard and Itasca counties.

Directions to the Hubbard Community Center: Travel on Highway 87 to the town of Hubbard, turn South on County Road 6, go approximately a half mile. The Hubbard Community Center is the yellow building on the west. Refreshments will be served beginning at 9 a.m.
