GRAND FORKS -- So far, the New Year isn't going so well for an Emerado, N.D., man who police said rear-ended a North Dakota Highway Patrol vehicle while driving under the influence Friday morning in Grand Forks.
Glenn Abraham, 56, was at the wheel of a 1992 Oldsmobile when he hit a 2006 Ford Expedition patrol vehicle driven by Trooper Matt Denault, police said.
Police said the crash happened shortly after 8 a.m in the westbound lane of Gateway Drive as Denault was waiting at a traffic light for the on-ramp to southbound Interstate 29. No injuries were reported.
Sgt. Aaron Hummel of the patrol said Abraham was headed out of town after partying in Grand Forks the night before; a bottle containing hard alcohol was found in his car.
The Expedition sustained about $1,000 in damage and the Oldsmobile had significant front-end damage, Hummel said.

Hummel said the Grand Forks Police Department handled the arrest to avoid conflicts of interest. Police Sgt. Tom Laughlin said Abraham declined a breath test.
Abraham was booked into the Grand Forks County Correctional Center on DUI, open container, no liability insurance, careless driving and driving with a revoked license. A message left for him at the jail was not immediately returned Friday.
A jail spokeswoman said his bail is set at $1,253 and that he's expected to make his first court appearance Monday.
