Detroit Lakes Newspapers lost one of its own Tuesday, as outdoors columnist Bernard J. "Bernie" Revering passed away suddenly at St. Mary's Innovis Health.
Revering, 89, was a longtime hunting and trap shooting enthusiast who continued to write the "Becker County Sportsman" column for the Becker County Record up until the time of his death.
"Bernie was just such a wonderful sportsman, very conservation minded," said DL Newspapers publisher Dennis Winskowski on Tuesday.
Winskowski further noted that, "If Bernie wrote about something, you knew it was true."
"If I had a question, I could always call him and get an answer," said colleague Mike Gravdahl, who writes an outdoors column for the Park Rapids Enterprise. "He was just a very knowledgeable individual.

"I think your paper won't be the same without him," Gravdahl added.
Longtime hunting companion and good friend Don Lefebvre of Detroit Lakes said, "He was a very giving person.
"We hunted a lot with my two grandsons, and he was always asking about them and wondering how they were doing...
"I think the whole community is going to miss him -- I know I'm going to miss him a lot," Lefebvre added. "He was not only my hunting buddy, he was a good friend."
Funeral services for Bernie Revering will take place this Friday, July 9 at 10:30 a.m. in Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Detroit Lakes.
