A Pelican Rapids man made his initial appearance in Becker County District Court for allegedly stealing a vehicle.
Jesse Antonio Payan, 28, was arrested Dec. 9 at the Holiday Gas Station in Detroit Lakes and charged with felony theft.
According to the complaint, a female from Moorhead notified authorities that her daughter had lent a vehicle to Payan for one day three weeks prior, but that he failed to return it.
When authorities went to arrest Payan, he initially gave the officer a false name, but later admitted his real name and said he “probably had a warrant out for his arrest”.
He is also charged with giving a peace officer a false name, a gross misdemeanor.
