DETROIT LAKES - Although the weather didn't cooperate the first time around, the postponed Polar Plunge activities scored high the following weekend.
There were 88 jumpers, and there would have been at least 100 the previous weekend had extreme weather conditions not delayed it a weekend.
"I believe that's the highest," Boys and Girls Club Executive Director Pat Petermann said of the number of jumpers. The Polar Plunge is a fund-raiser for the club.
After a few bills were paid for the event, Petermann estimates the club cleared $30,000.
"That's awesome. What a wonderful fund-raiser for us. It was a huge success."

One of those contributing to the success was G.L. Tucker and SJE Rhombus.
Tucker agreed to jump for the Detroit Lakes business. He ended up winning the top prize of $1,000 in a cash drawing and in return, donated the $1,000 back to the club.
SJE-Rhombus held daily events to raise funds for the Polar Plunge. Some of the activities included selling tickets for a gift basket or to buy a sinker, or bobber, for Tucker.
Other activities were a brownie-baking contest, chili feed, dart challenge, bake sale, jeans day and one lucky employee had his head shaved after the employees met their $2,500 fund-raising goal.
This is the second year SJE Rhombus has done this within its organization. It is a great way to have fun with co-workers and to help the kids of the Detroit Lakes community.
BTD Manufacturing was also a large supporter, offering up its $10,000 business challenge again this year. With the goal reached, BTD donated a matching $10,000 to the club.
Petermann said an estimated 450 spectators came out to view the plunge due to the beautiful weather that weekend.
