A Motley man was charged for the second time in a year with domestic-violence-related crimes after a bloody assault over spilled yogurt.
At 9:26 a.m. on Jan. 30, a Wadena officer responded to an assault complaint. The officer met with the 19-year-old female victim, who had fresh blood coming from her nose, blood on her pants, a swollen lip and large swollen lump on the corner of her eye, according to a police incident report and court documents.
She told the investigator she was lying in bed with Jacob Eric Pikula, 19, when she rolled over and bumped him, causing the cup of yogurt he was eating to spill. Pikula allegedly got mad and pushed her out of bed onto the floor, then beat her in the face with a closed fist, court records said. Pikula then allegedly choked the woman until she nearly passed out. The woman was taken to the hospital and treated for her injuries.
Pikula has a prior domestic violence conviction in Todd County on Nov. 10, 2009. He was charged in January 2009 with that crime.
He was charged Feb. 2 in Wadena County District Court with domestic assault by strangulation and domestic assault -- subsequent violation.
