RED LAKE, Minn. - A Red Lake woman has been sentenced to six years in federal prison for stabbing a man to death in 2013.
Alison Ann Brown, 26, was convicted Oct. 8 in U.S. District Court on a manslaughter charge, a release from the U.S. Attorney's Office said. Brown was sentenced to 78 months in prison for killing Byron Lussier Sr. in the kitchen of his home July 4, 2013. Both Brown and Lussier were members of the Red Lake Band of Chippewa Indians. Lussier lived on the reservation.
Brown was indicted Aug. 5, 2013, and pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter Feb. 28, the release said. She has been given a supervised release term of three years.
The release said Lussier had been at a party the evening of July 3 and when he returned home with two friends in the early morning hours of July 4 Brown was at his home and inebriated. Despite Lussier's demand that she leave, Brown became angry and grabbed two kitchen knives and a barbecue grill fork, the release said. Brown stabbed Lussier in the torso and face, he died as a result of the wounds.
