Rock band America to appear at Holmes Theatre's fifth birthday celebration

Greg Smith performs his Senior Piano Recital at 2 p.m. today in United Methodist Church, Detroit Lakes. Greg has performed three times in the MMTA Honors Concert at Northrup Auditorium in Minneapolis and will be performing there once again on June 2. Greg is a piano student of Anne Jorgensen.

The "April Showers Bring May Flowers" Garden Party and Silent Auction will be held today from 6-8 p.m. at the New York Mills Regional Cultural Center. Funds raised from this event support the numerous art education programs offered through the Center. "Voices of Men," a one man play working to end men's violence against women, features Ben Atherton-Zeman from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 1, in the Shooting Star Casino, Mahnomen. The New York Mills Regional Cultural Center will host a theatre performance titled "Plain Hearts" on Wednesday, May 2 at 7 p.m. This two-act play was written by Lance S. Belville and features music and lyrics by Wadena native Eric Peltoniemi. The play's crew is headed by director Gina Ehlers, vocal coach Jennifer Johnson and accompanist Sommer Robles, and features a local cast of Linda Tikkanen, Sue Roche, Diane Ehlers, Latoya Cobb and Cheryl Petersen.
