Located at the corner of West Lake Drive and Washington Avenue in Detroit Lakes, Giovanni's recently re-opened, offering up a few new menu options as well as their made-from-scratch pizza pies.
"We used to own it when it was located next to the South Washington Avenue Subway, sold it and recently got it back," explained owner Joyce Schweigart.
Schweigart along with her son, Zack Taves, own the local pizza franchise. With previous experience in the business and Giovanni's in particular, Schweigart and Taves have a variety of plans for the local pizza place with a view of Detroit Lake.
"We are going to serve subs again this summer, and we will have soft serve (ice cream) and slushies too," said Schweigart. "All our ingredients our fresh too. And our dough and sauces are all homemade."
With an expanded menu and new look, Schweigart and Taves are ready for their pizza patrons to dine in, carry out or take advantage of Giovanni's delivery.

"We put the booths back in to make things more comfortable for our dinners, and we have done a little remodeling," said Schweigart.
Besides being known for their distinctive specialty pizzas such as the house combo featuring pepperoni, sausage, green pepper, mushrooms and onions, and the Jumbo G, which has everything but the kitchen sink, says Schweigart, Giovanni's also has pasta options.
"A lot of people might not know we have pasta like fettuccine alfredo, spaghetti and lasagna. We also have unique pizzas like our cheesy chicken parmesan and hot wing pizza," commented Schweigart.
"We are also planning to have a Saturday night pizza and pasta buffet too," added Taves.
In addition to their pizza and pasta entrees, Giovanni's presently serves a weekly lunch buffet, featuring all-you-can-eat pizza, appetizers and pop from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Prices are $5.50 per person, and $4.95 for students.
Currently, the local pizzeria employs seven including Schweigart and Taves. Both born and raised in the lakes area, Schweigart and Taves are excited to be back in the local pizza business.
With a building that overlooks Detroit Lake and the marina, the present location for the duo's former business has provided much opportunity thus far.
"We are offering quality pizza and a great price that tastes great and have really been happy with the business we have had already since the three weeks we have been open," concluded Schweigart.
