GRANITE FALLS - An arrest warrant has been issued for Andrew Dikken, 28, suspect in the fatal shootings of Kara Monson, 26, of Granite Falls, and Chris Panitzke, 28, of Redwood Falls, according to the Minnesota Department of Public Safety and local law enforcement. Both were shot in Monson's home in Granite Falls during the early morning hours on Sept. 2. Monson died at the scene of multiple gunshot wounds. Panitzke died Sunday at the Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis. Although he too suffered multiple gunshot wounds, he had made a 911 call at the time of the shooting to summon help. A memorial service for Panitzke will be held at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Redwood Falls. According to his obituary, he is survived by a young daughter, his parents and siblings. A memorial service for Kara Monson was held Tuesday in Granite Falls. She also is survived by a young daughter as well as her parents and siblings. The arrest warrant for Dikken in the double homicide was sealed and filed in the local district court, according to Yellow Medicine County Sheriff Bill Flaten. As a sealed warrant, it and any information it may contain are not available to the public. Dikken, of Granite Falls and formerly of Renville, had a previous relationship with Monson.
Law enforcement agencies have been searching for Dikken since the shooting, initially referring to him as a "person of interest" in the case. He was recorded on a video surveillance camera at a Granite Falls convenience store shortly after the shooting on Sept. 2, and his whereabouts have been unknown since. His vehicle was discovered Sept. 4 in a gravel pit about five miles north of Belview off of Redwood County Road 7. Law enforcement agencies initially conducted a search of the Minnesota River Valley in that area north of Belview and south of Sacred Heart, and they have conducted subsequent ground searches as well. There was no active ground search taking place on Wednesday, but law enforcement is continuing to follow up on information provided by the public, according to Sheriff Flaten. The sheriff continues to urge that anyone with information on the suspect's whereabouts to contact the Granite Falls Police Department, the Yellow Medicine Sheriff's Office, or call 911. Dikken should not be approached as he may be armed and dangerous. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is assisting in the investigation.
