Sebeka man sentenced on burglaries

Bertram William McGrath, 36, of Sebeka has been sentenced on felony burglary charges in Hubbard, Becker, Wadena and Otter Tail counties.

District Judge Paul Rasmussen pronounced the sentencing Jan. 26 in Hubbard County District Court.

McGrath was arrested Dec. 28, 2004, in Hubbard County and charged with one count of first-degree burglary and six counts of third-degree burglary in connection with homes, garages and storage buildings that had been reported as broken into during December.

Various items had been taken, including a snow blower, generator, air compressors and various tools, as well as a rifle and compound bow.

McGrath was convicted on one count of third-degree burglary in Hubbard County and sentenced to 24 months in jail with credit for one year's time served, with concurrent sentences on charges in the other counties ranging from 21 to 28 months.

He also was convicted of one count of second-degree burglary from a conviction in Wadena County, one count of third-degree burglar from a conviction in Becker County and one count of third-degree burglary on a conviction in Otter Tail County.

The amount of restitution will be combined but is yet to be determined.
