Sentencing has been set April 6 for a Detroit Lakes man charged with felony possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Walter David Draack, 35, of 13416 Pearl Lake Road, Detroit Lakes, was convicted of the charge Thursday, following a three-day jury trial.
According to court records, on Nov. 7, 2009, a DNR conservation officer saw a black pickup truck pull over on Highway 10 near Frazee at a popular fishing and trapping site.
The DNR officer knew Draack from past dealings and walked up to talk to him. He allegedly saw the rear end of a butt stock on a long gun lying in the passenger seat, partially covered by a jacket. A box of Hornaday ammunition was reportedly lying on top of the jacket.
Draack was prohibited from carrying a firearm because of a conviction for third-degree assault in February 2009. He was arrested and a Remington Model 700 .22-250 rifle was confiscated at the scene. It was loaded with two rounds -- one in the magazine and one in the chamber.
