Several different types of insects may try to enter your home this autumn as they try to find sites to spend the winter. They’re annoying, but harmless.
To exclude them, seal openings in outdoor walls, around windows and doors, and along the foundation. Apply an appropriate insecticide around the exterior of your home.
Fall clean up and yard work can provide enjoyable outdoor exercise on brisk, sunny days.
Tomatoes need an average daily temperature of 65 degrees or more to ripen well. When weather temperatures drop pick tomatoes and ripen them indoors out of direct sunlight.

Nurseries often run fall specials on woody plants, so they have less inventory to carry over winter. You can plant trees and shrubs safely now, provided you new mulch them well, and water them regularly until the ground freezes. Add three to four inches of shredded bark or wood chip mulch, but leave a little space between the mulch and the trunk or main stems. Spread the mulch in a generous circle over the root area.
