When the filing period for 2020 municipal elections begins on July 28, six of the nine positions on the Detroit Lakes City Council will be up for grabs.
The terms of Mayor Matt Brenk, Ward 1 Alderman Ron Zeman, Ward 2 Alderman Jamie Marks-Erickson, Ward 3 Alderman Dan Josephson and Alderman-At-Large Bruce Imholte are all set to expire on Dec. 31, while the seat vacated by Ward 2 Alderman Jay Schurman in April will also be up for election on Nov. 3.
Schurman's vacated seat will be open for a two-year term; all other openings are for four-year terms. Imholte has already announced that he will not be seeking re-election in the fall. Candidates for any of the open seats may file anytime from July 28 until 5 p.m. Aug. 11.
