June 1 is the date that restaurants across Minnesota will be allowed to reopen, with limitations including outdoor-only seating and no more than 50 on-site customers.
To help local restaurants that have not offered outdoor seating in the past, the Detroit Lakes City Council will hold a special meeting at 4 p.m. today, May 27, to approve temporary expansion permits that would allow them to do so.
Today's meeting will be the first in roughly two months that will offer the public an opportunity to attend in person. It will be at the Holmes Theatre Ballroom, 806 Summit Ave.,but those who choose not to attend in person may also view the meeting live on YouTube, via a link found on the City of Detroit Lakes website .
Minnesota's bars and restaurants have been closed to all but takeout and home delivery options since March 17, to help limit the spread of the coronavirus.
Those who choose to attend the meeting in person are asked to observe social distancing precautions.
