A St. Paul woman was sentenced Monday in Becker County District Court a felony charge of theft by check.
Nicole Lynn Newling, 30, of 670 N. Roberts St., St. Paul, was given a stayed prison sentence on conditions including completion of up to five years of supervised probation, 37 days in jail, and community service in lieu of $1,085 in court fines and fees. She was also ordered to pay $2,692 in restitution.
A second felony count of issuing dishonored checks was dismissed. If she successfully completes probation, the felony charge will be reduced to a misdemeanor conviction on her record.
Newling was accused of writing over $2,450 in bad checks at three Becker County businesses back in 2011.
The checks were written on three different checking accounts, which had all been closed in 2010. She also allegedly passed one check on the account of another person, which had also been closed.
