FARGO - The storm system moving through North Dakota will produce its heaviest snow in the western part of the state today, while Fargo will receive cold air and scattered light rain.
The storm was still in the west as of this morning, said Jeff Makowski, meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Grand Forks. The North Dakota Department of Transportation issued a travel alert for areas surrounding Dickinson, Williston, Minot, Bismarck, Devils Lake, Jamestown, Valley City and Grand Forks.
The Associated Press reported that preliminary snow totals from the National Weather Service show two northwestern North Dakota towns have received more than a foot of snow.
The National Weather Service says Crosby has received 18 inches of snow as of Saturday morning while Williston has received 12 inches.
"We'll see the heaviest snow during the day today," Makowski said. "It looks like the worst of the winter storm could be to the north and west with this system."

The storm is forecast to move into Fargo-Moorhead tonight, bringing with it cold temperatures and light snow.
The National Weather Service forecast predicts a low of 25 degrees tonight in the metro area, with an 80 percent chance of snow or rain. The Sunday forecast shows a 30 percent chance of snow showers with a high of 26 degrees.
Makowski said the storm will probably be out of the area by Monday.
Monday's forecast is partly sunny with a high of 25 degrees.
