GRAND RAPIDS, Minn. -- The Itasca County Attorney’s Office said Monday it wants a 17-year-old involved in a high-speed chase last week to be tried as an adult.
Grant Edward Gunderson of Grand Rapids appeared Monday on five felony charges resulting from the incident. According to charging documents, officers were responding to a domestic assault call Thursday when the suspect fled in a vehicle at speeds exceeding 100 mph and at one point attempted to ram two squad cars, forcing the squads into the ditch. A Grand Rapids police officer fired shots at the vehicle.
Gunderson, the only occupant of the vehicle, was charged with one count of domestic assault, three counts of use of deadly force against a peace officer and one count of fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle.
The attorney’s office filed a motion Monday seeking to have Gunderson tried as an adult. A hearing on the request is scheduled for Wednesday. Gunderson was ordered to remain in custody until then.
