Two charges of theft by swindle have been dropped against a Detroit Lakes man.

Scott Allen Tyge, 38, of 12907 West Abbey Lake Road, Detroit Lakes, was accused in Becker County District Court of tampering with the engine warning lights on two motor vehicles that were sold to area residents while he was an employee of Hanson's Auto Sales in Detroit Lakes in March 2008.

Another employee of the dealership reported that Tyge allegedly placed black electrical tape over the warning lights inside the dashboards of the two vehicles, which were later sold to two local residents without informing them that the vehicles needed major repairs.

The charges were dismissed by District Judge Peter Irvine for lack of corroborating evidence, according to Detroit Lakes attorney Simon George, who represented Tyge and made the motion to dismiss the charges.
