A fire in the trailer park on 8th Street in Detroit Lakes on Thursday resulted in the total loss of one woman's home, before local firefighters were able to extinguish it just before noon.

"The trailer was completely engulfed when we arrived," Detroit Lakes Fire Chief Scott Flynn said.

He added that the fire had spread throughout the trailer before they could do anything.

Neighbors reported seeing flames pouring out the window before firefighters arrived.

"I was standing out here to see what was going on, and suddenly fire starts squirting out the window and the fire alarm is going off," neighbor Danny Johnson said. "She (the homeowner) said it might've started in the bedroom."

The woman who lived there was reportedly still inside when the fire began.

According to Johnson, the resident came out carrying her two dogs and one cat and waited for emergency assistance to arrive.

Flynn said the woman will be staying with family members tonight.

The Detroit Lakes Fire Department was on the scene for about two hours. St. Mary's EMS and the Detroit Lakes Police Department also responded.

No one was harmed in the fire, according to Flynn. "We are unsure at this time what caused it," he added.
