Two suspects charged with first-degree criminal property damage in connection with a July 16 vandalism incident in Detroit Lakes made their first appearances in Becker County District Court Tuesday.
Nicholas Anthony Jones, 21, of 1220 8th St. SE, Lot 96, Detroit Lakes, and James Otto Schwarzrock, 23, of 45152 Highway 87, Frazee, were both released on their own recognizance pending their next scheduled court appearances.
Jones is set to appear at an Oct. 17 Rule 8 hearing, while Schwarzrock's omnibus hearing is set for Nov. 7.
According to court records, a witness observed four young males outside Lakeshirts in Detroit Lakes at just past 10 p.m. July 17. The witness said that the young men hit the siding on the building, then walked up onto the hood of her car and down again.
There was an estimated $1,597 in damage to the vehicle, according to the report. An investigating officer later found four young men walking south from the front of the Lakeshirts building; the witness positively identified them as the four involved in the incident, and some footprints found on the car matched shoes worn by Jones and Schwarzrock.
