Nicholas George Savig, 32, of 48548 County Road 31, Vergas has been charged in Becker County District Court with felony fifth-degree controlled substance crime, felony fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle, gross misdemeanor no proof of insurance and misdemeanor driving after revocation.

According to court records, on Sept. 18 about 12:21 a.m. a deputy at 385th Avenue and 175th Street (about a mile southwest of Little Toad Lake) tried to pull him over for failing to signal a turn.

The vehicle did not immediately pull over, but turned north on County Road 31 with the officer following with his emergency lights on.

Twice the deputy saw items thrown out of the vehicle, which then turned onto a minimum maintenance road and stopped about a mile from where the deputy first tried to pull it over.

Savig, the driver, was arrested on an outstanding warrant and an inventory search of the vehicle allegedly turned up $1,600 in cash and a gun case that contained a sawed-off pump-action Winchester 12-gauge shotgun, with four live rounds inside.

A black cooler was also found in the vehicle, containing a digital scale with residue that tested positive for methamphetamines.

An order for detention was signed Sept. 18 in Becker County District Court.
