Former White Earth Reservation Tribal Chairman Darrell "Chip" Wadena has pleaded guilty to a charge of conspiracy to commit mail fraud in an interstate vehicle title washing scheme, according to the Associated Press.
The news was released Thursday by the U.S. Attorney's Office in Minneapolis. Wadena had pleaded not guilty in November, but reached a plea agreement with prosecutors that was filed Jan. 5.
Wadena and a Florida man were investigated by authorities in several states on reports that junked vehicles were purchased in Florida and brought to Minnesota, where fraudulent titles were issued and the vehicles sold.
