PARK RAPIDS, Minn. - A suspect has been charged in connection with a case of animal abuse after authorities discovered two horses that starved to death tied to trees east of Park Rapids in northern Minnesota.
Minden Ann Crenshaw, 28, faces three counts of mistreating animals, each punishable by a maximum of two years in prison and a $5,000 fine if convicted. The counts include depriving the horses of food and water, abandonment and cruelty. The horses were found April 19 about four miles east of Park Rapids, near an area called Dorset Corner.
One horse managed to break its tether, but the other simply dropped in place as it was tied to a tree in a heavily wooded area. A bucket of water and a small bale of hay had been left nearby, but both were beyond reach of the animals as they were tied.
Crenshaw's bail was set at $25,000 unconditional and $3,000 on the conditions Crenshaw not have any pets and remains law abiding.
