Malinda Lace Holmes, 19, of 316 South Swift, Litchfield, has been sentenced in Becker County District Court for felony check forgery.

According to court records: On May 23, she and a boyfriend took a family member's checkbook and wrote checks totaling about $3,500 in the Detroit Lakes area and elsewhere.

The two had stayed with the family member for two or three days and knew where she kept her checkbook.

Holmes pleaded guilty Oct. 15 to felony offering a forged check, and a second felony check forgery charge was dismissed in a plea agreement.

On Friday, District Judge Joe Evans stayed imposition of sentence for five years and placed her on supervised probation for five years.

She must serve 30 days in jail and another 30 days on electronic home monitoring. Work release and STS privileges were granted. She was fined $500 plus court fees, and must pay more than $3,500 in restitution.
