The Federal Bureau of Investigation is warning licensed health care professionals of a nationwide fraud scheme targeting them, according to an FBI news release posted on the Minnesota Board of Nursing website.

The report summarizes several instances in which medical professionals were contacted by phone, email, or mail -- by criminals claiming to be with a state's board of medicine, the U.S. Department of Justice or the Drug Enforcement Administration -- and were advised that their license had been suspended or that they were under investigation for illegal opioid distribution. The criminals demanded immediate payment to avoid license suspension. See the Minnesota Board of Nursing website for more information.
