Weekly Update: New COVID-cases in Becker and Clay Counties triple over last 3 weeks

Newly reported COVID cases in Becker and Clay Counties have more than tripled over the past three weeks. In the week of Jan. 4, Clay County reported 304 new cases during the week, in the week of Jan. 18, those weekly totals increased to 963. Active cases in Becker County requiring isolation have increased from 76 on Jan. 4 to 241 on Jan. 18. Also, the state reported an additional 78,355 COVID-19 cases this week, a 19% increase compared to the previous seven days, totaling 1,193,504 for the entire pandemic. Also, 98 new deaths were reported by the state in the last seven days, a decrease of 57% compared to the previous week, totaling 11,037 for the entire pandemic. Statewide COVID-19 data is not being released on federal holidays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Newly reported COVID cases in Becker and Clay Counties have more than tripled over the past three weeks. In the week of Jan. 4, Clay County reported 304 new cases; comparatively, in the week of Jan. 18, those weekly totals increased to 963. Active cases in Becker County requiring isolation have increased from 76 on Jan. 4 to 241 on Jan. 18.

Statewide, weekly COVID-related deaths have decreased to 98, a 57% reduction compared to the previous seven days, totaling 11,037 for the entire pandemic.

Following are the state-listed total number of positive COVID-19 cases in the lakes area, by county, from Jan. 12 to Jan. 18, 2022.

  • Becker: 7,205, up 290 cases since Jan. 12, including 1 additional death (83 deaths).
  • Clay (Moorhead): 15,088, up 963 cases since Jan. 12 (114 deaths).
  • Otter Tail: 11,126, up 128 cases since Jan. 12, including 4 additional deaths (152 deaths).
  • Hubbard: 4,109, up 148 cases since Jan. 12 (52 deaths).
  • Norman: 1,161, up 32 cases since Jan. 12, including 1 additional death (12 deaths).
  • Mahnomen: 1,256, up 43 cases since Jan. 12 (17 deaths).
  • Clearwater: 1,773, up 40 cases since Jan. 12 (27 deaths).
  • Wadena: 3,470, up 40 cases since Jan. 12, including 1 additional death (46 deaths).

Otter Tail County reported 153 active cases on Jan. 12, an increase of 45 active cases over the previous week, according to Otter Tail County Public Health .

Becker County reported 241 active cases on Jan. 18, an increase of 50 active cases since Jan. 12, according to Becker County Public Health.

Cass County, N.D. (Fargo) reported 2,575 active COVID-19 cases on Jan. 18, an increase of 775 active cases since Jan. 12, according to the North Dakota Health Department . There have been 49,329 cases reported in Cass County since the pandemic began, including 295 deaths.
