Waubun man gets five years for loaded handgun
Stephen Clifford Stone, 26, of rural Waubun has been sentenced in Becker County District Court to five years in prison for felon in possession of a firearm, a felony.
Fourth- and fifth-degree felony drug charges were dropped in a plea agreement.
According to court records, at 10:14 p.m. on Nov. 17 he was pulled over by a tribal police officer on County Road 21 near Crane Lake after the vehicle he was driving was observed traveling over the fog line.
He was arrested on an active warrant, and admitted that he had heroin in his possession. He turned over 11 bindles totalling 1.1 grams of heroin. At least two of the bindles field-tested positive for fentanyl and the drugs were turned over to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension for lab testing. A loaded .380 Bersa handgun was in the glove box.
He was convicted of a crime of violence in March and is not allowed to have guns or ammunition.
Stone appeared Feb. 14 before District Judge Jay Carlson, who sentenced him to 60 months in prison at St. Cloud and ordered him to pay a $50 fine and $215 in court fees.
