DL woman sentenced for check forgery
Amiee Michelle Otte, 40, of rural Detroit Lakes has been sentenced in Becker County District Court for felony check forgery.
According to court records, on Nov. 17, 2016, a Detroit Lakes police officer was called to a bank in Detroit Lakes on the report that over the preceding two days, two people had been cashing forged checks.
Otte was one of them, and on Nov. 15 she had cashed a $500 check on the victim's account. Surveillance video showed her cashing the check at the bank, and the check was signed by her.
Otte appeared in court April 4 before District Judge Jay Carlson, who sentenced her to 17 months in prison at Shakopee, stayed five years. She was ordered to serve 42 days in jail, with credit for 42 days served. She must pay a $500 fine, $660 in court fees and $700 in restitution. She was placed on supervised probation for five years.
