Man sentenced for pound of marijuana

Freddie Cisneros Jr., 28, of Thief River Falls, has been sentenced in Becker County District Court for felony fifth-degree controlled substance crime.

According to court records, about 11:20 a.m. on March 18, 2017, a trooper pulled over the vehicle he was riding in on Highway 59 in Becker County for possible illegally-tinted windows. A check of the driver's side window with a tint meter showed the tint was 15 percent, which is below Minnesota's legal threshold of 50 percent light transmittal.

The trooper smelled marijuana in the vehicle and the driver admitted to having a one-hitter and a grinder in the vehicle. A package between Cisneros' feet was found to contain about a pound of marijuana. The driver said that he and Cisneros had purchased the marijuana together.

Cisneros appeared in court Sept. 15, where the case was continued to be dismissed if conditions are met. He was ordered to serve 30 days in jail, with credit for three days served. He can serve his time on electronic home monitoring.

He must pay $1,090 in court fees, abstain from alcohol and illegal drugs, and get a chemical dependency evaluation and follow the treatment recommendations. He was placed on supervised probation for five years.
