Woman sentenced for hiding runaway girl
Judy Lynn Libby, 45, of Shakopee has been sentenced in Becker County District Court on a felony charge of depriving a parent of parental rights.
According to court records, in December of 2014, a runaway girl spent a week at her home in Becker County with her and her son, who was in a relationship with the girl.
The girl's legal guardian suspected she was there and was searching for her, but both Libby and the son denied the girl was at the home. The son had slid a shelf in front of a closet door to hide her during two previous police searches, but the girl was found during a search on Dec. 18, 2014, and Libby was very upset when officers brought the girl out of the house.
On Dec. 28, District Judge Jay Carlson sentenced Libby to a year and a day in prison at Shakopee and fined her $500 plus $575 in court fees. The sentence will be served concurrently with the sentence in another case.
