DL man sentenced for felony domestic assault
Travis Aaron Rosebear, 27, of Detroit Lakes has been sentenced in Becker County District Court for felony domestic assault by strangulation. Two misdemeanor domestic assault charges were dropped in a plea agreement.
According to court records, he assaulted his girlfriend of two years while he was intoxicated. He drank heavily that night and hit her in the face with closed fists, and later choked her, then begin throwing things at her, including an electric can opener, which hit her in the forehead. The victim was eventually able to call police for help.
Rosebear appeared in court April 17 before District Judge Gretchen Thilmony, who sentenced him to 18 months in prison at St. Cloud, stayed four years. He was ordered to serve 64 days in jail, with credit for 64 days served. He was fined $1,000, plus $1,165 in court fees, and was ordered to get domestic abuse and chemical dependency evaluations, as well as a complete diagnostic assessment, and follow the recommendations. He was placed on supervised probation for four years.
