A felony theft charge has been dropped in Becker County District Court against Curtis Lee James Fairbanks, 28, of St. Cloud.
According to court records, on Aug. 26, 2017, a police officer was called to a Detroit Lakes business to review video evidence that showed Fairbanks had stolen purses from two customers. One purse contained $1,000 cash and the other contained $30 cash, and both had credit card and identification cards inside. Fairbanks was arrested and officers found he had $1,037 cash on him.
On April 15 the Becker County Attorney's Office dismissed the charge because Fairbanks was in prison on another charge and had sufficient jail credit to satisfy the guideline sentence in this case. No restitution was being claimed, and Fairbanks is under the supervision of the Minnesota Department of Corrections.
