Letter: Volunteers, public feedback needed by Food Pantry
The Becker County Food Pantry is looking at making some changes to the
hours that they are open for service and are looking for your input.
Since the Food Pantry is only open Tuesdays and Thursdays from noon to 3 p.m., it is extremely difficult for anyone who is working to make it during those hours.
And we realize that there are people who, even though they are working, but with unexpected medical or mechanical expenses, find themselves in dire straits and in need of help.
The Food Pantry is looking at extending our hours, at least one evening
A month, to be open from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., either on a Monday or Tuesday, for those working to be able to come in.
We are also going to be working with a "skeletal" staff at those times, so the client will be expected to "shop" (fill their own boxes) and select their own items. We will also expect the client to "call in" to get a time to shop and pick up their supplies. The clients would not have to wait long to be taken care of with a scheduled time.
We would also need a half-dozen volunteers willing to be "trained in" to assist clients. Many volunteers either can't fit the current time commitment due to work schedules, etc. so this may be a time you can help. Give us a call.
At this time, we are asking for public input as to which day and which week
of the month would work the best, as well as concerns about hours or calling in to get a shopping time. Please email your comments to: firstname.lastname@example.org or call 846-0142 and leave a message. — Brad Carlson, Detroit Lakes
