A black bear was caught on Dairy Queen surveillance camera in downtown Detroit Lakes on Thursday night.

In an Oct. 1 Facebook post of overnight surveillance footage, the bear can be seen making its way by the front door of the fast-food restaurant at 10:54 p.m. off McKinley Avenue.

McKinley Nutrition, another business in McKinley Plaza, posted a photo of the bear in front of their store on Thursday.

Earlier in the day, at 4:33 p.m. on the 1300 block of Lori Avenue, a residential neighborhood about a mile away from the other sighting, a bear was found hiding in a tree. Officers encouraged residents to stay inside and not to approach the bear.

It remains unclear if the bear found in the tree was the same bear sighted later that night in front of Dairy Queen, a law enforcement official said.

If residents see a bear in city, do not approach it and call the Detroit Lakes Police Department at (218) 847-4222.
