Benita “Bonnie” Jo McNeill (Benewicz)

Bonnie McNeill, 66, wife of Philip McNeill, mother to Kristianne McNeill, Alicia Robertson, Holly McNeill, and Natalie Sampson, passed away peacefully at UC Davis Hospital in Sacramento on Friday, Jul. 30, with her family by her side.

Bonnie, daughter of Urban and Beth Benewicz, was born in Detroit Lakes, MN, graduated from Detroit Lakes High School in 1973, and attended Moorhead State University where she was a member of the SAI Music Sorority and received a BA in Biology in 1977. Bonnie and Philip married on July 1, 1978 in Detroit Lakes, and resided in Chicago, IL; Sacramento, CA from 1980; and settled in El Dorado Hills, CA in 1991.

Bonnie worked in Environmental Chemistry for 38 years, and retired from her civilian position with the US Army Corps of Engineers in 2019. She was a member of the Lake Natoma Rowing Association Women’s Masters, loved painting, knitting, genealogy, and talking to her many plants.

She is survived by husband - Philip, three daughters – Alicia, Holly, Natalie, and grandson – William Sampson. Preceding Bonnie in death were her parents, and her daughter Kristianne.

Interment will be at the Fair Oaks Cemetery in California. Her family welcomes any floral gifts in her name. Her favorites were peonies, sunflowers, or any flower in a pastel color. Flowers should be sent no sooner than Aug. 19th, and delivered between 10 and 3 to Simple Traditions Funeral Services, 1001 Nichols Dr. Suite 5, Rocklin, CA 95765.
