James I. Gottenborg
James (Jim) I. Gottenborg, age 86, died on April 8, 2021 at Essentia Health-Oak Crossing, Detroit Lakes, MN under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. With his children by his side.
James (Jim) Isaac Gottenborg was born on May 17, 1934 in Detroit Lakes, MN the second of five children born to Isaac and Alice (Okeson) Gottenborg. Jim was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church, Audubon, MN. He attended school in Audubon, graduating in 1952 where he played on the basketball team with his brothers, Roger, and Robert. He attended college at NDSU in Fargo, ND. He served in the United States Army, drafted in 1957, serving until March 1959. He was stationed in Germany with duties in the Mess Station. His life-long career of driving truck and delivering freight started in the 1950’s, retiring in 2003. He travelled to most of the states, Alaska, and Canadian Provinces. He had many recollections of roads travelled and cities visited.
He is survived by his children, Jim Jr., Greg (Tiffany), Krista, grand-daughter Taylor, brothers Robert (Phyllis), John (Kay), sister in-law Frances, and many nieces, and nephews.
He is proceeded in death by his parents, brother Roger in 2016, sister Susan in 2021. A funeral was held at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Audubon, MN at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 13, 2021 with visitation 1 hour prior to service. A burial followed at the First Lutheran Church Cemetery, Audubon, MN.
